Renovation of a Historic Printing Factory Facade in Russia

about this project

Originally built during the Soviet era, this historic printing factory underwent a comprehensive renovation in 2017, transforming both its façade and interiors across 5,000 square meters. The new design carefully balances industrial heritage with contemporary aesthetics.

The façade was reimagined with materials reminiscent of classic red brick, complemented by bold black vertical elements and crisp white surfaces between the windows. Reflecting the industrial style that gained popularity in Russia in 2018, the entrance areas were enhanced with metal finishes featuring rust and wood-like textures. To withstand St. Petersburg’s high humidity, durable metal materials with varied textures were chosen for the exterior.

The final design integrates white and black plaster, red brick, and gray brick at the base, while strategic façade lighting highlights the building’s architectural details, reinforcing its modern industrial character.
